Safety Commitment
BNSF recognizes that a safe and secure railroad network is essential to the future of sustainable transportation. Our commitment to safety dates back for decades. In fact, over one hundred years ago, the 1908 issue of the Santa Fe Railway employee magazine noted, "To thousands of railway employees the question of safety is one that is ever with and near them."
Today, thanks to decades of hard work and a strong safety focus, the U.S. rail industry is one of the safest industries in the world. The employee injury rate in our industry is lower than that in most other industries, including other transportation industries. And the accident rate is significantly lower than that for the trucking industry.
At BNSF, we lead the industry in many areas of safety. Our grade crossing incident rate has consistently been the lowest among major railroads for many years. We are also a leader in developing new technology designed to further improve the safety of our operation.
We are strongly committed to ensuring the safety of our operation and our employees, and we will continue working diligently and strategically toward continuous improvement.
