ESTABLISH A RAIL-SERVED FACILITY

1. We meet and share information.

We get together so that we can help determine how to develop a facility that will best fit your transportation needs.

2. Together, we search for the right site.

If you haven’t already located a site, we will help you find one that we think is ideal to meet your business objectives and our guidelines. We are also aware of available sites in many of the key energy regions.

3. You purchase your land option, if necessary.

4. You complete and submit your conceptual drawing.

Your conceptual drawing will be submitted to BNSF Engineering for pre-approval and then to the New Business Review process.

5. You complete your New Business Review Questionnaire.

You’ll submit a New Business Review Questionnaire that includes information that we need to optimize the facility, including anticipated volumes, origins and destinations. BNSF experts in service design, operations, marketing, engineering and environmental will assess and approve your application, typically within 4 weeks.

6. We let you know it is okay to move forward with your plan as it is.

We also will let you know if we have any recommendations or if there are any modifications needed to your plan.

7. We supply estimates for BNSF-installed switches and signal upgrades, if necessary. And upon payment, we order the main line switches.

8. You submit your final engineered drawing for final design approval from BNSF Engineering and Operations.

9. We meet with you on your new site to discuss plans and understand your expected operations.

Often times this meeting includes representatives from BNSF operations, engineering and economic development departments.

10. Together, we execute key documentation, including the Construction Lease, Industry Track Agreement and Locomotive Use Agreement, if needed.

11. You begin construction.

12. We install your main line switches.

13. We give you a more in-depth operations education.

We have a meeting to discuss operating plans, establish communication points-of-contact and explain general customer processes and tools.

14. You complete construction, and we inspect your track.

15. Your first shipment takes place!
