Service Restored from Midwest Flooding

Jul 25, 2019

Dear Customer,

We are pleased to report that our Napier Subdivision, the last remaining subdivision out of service from this year's unprecedented flooding in the Midwest, reopened last weekend. We recognize the significant impact that the flooding had on your business, and we sincerely appreciate your support and patience.

Since the first flood-related outages occurred in March, BNSF team members and contractors worked around the clock to rebuild and restore our network as quickly as possible. At one point, nearly every section of our railroad in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, was either partially or fully out of service due to flooding. Traffic flows were re-routed, and some trains were diverted in response to these outages, which resulted in extended transit times, delays and congestion in some locations.

This video highlights the magnitude of the flooding across the central core of the BNSF network and the difficult conditions our crews confronted.

With all BNSF subdivisions in service, we expect to deliver improved service performance as crew and equipment resources are more effectively matched with train flows. We also remain committed to continuing to provide transparent and frequent communications about the state of our network.

As always, we thank you for your business and the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider.
