Temporary Southern California Intermodal Facilities Gate Allocations

Date
Oct 17, 2019

On Monday, October 14, 2019 at 07:30 a.m. CDT, BNSF received a preliminary report of a train derailment on our Southern Transcon route near Darling, Ariz., which affected both main tracks. Darling, Ariz. is approximately 15 miles east of Flagstaff. The first track was returned to service on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 11:40 a.m. CDT, and the second track reopened that evening at 7:55 p.m. CDT. While trains are moving again through the affected location, the intermodal network continues to experience congestion at origin and destination facilities.

To support the service recovery efforts, BNSF implemented gate allocations at its Southern California intermodal facilities on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. While these allocations will continue to be reevaluated and updated as conditions change, we anticipate that they will likely remain in place into early next week. These gate allocations may impact shipments to local BNSF destinations or destinations beyond the BNSF network.
