BNSF Statement on Incident in Raymond, Minnesota

Update 12 p.m. CDT, March 30, 2023:

BNSF provides the following update on this morning's incident near Raymond, Minnesota. The number of cars derailed is confirmed to be 22. As previously noted, the cars involved included ethanol and corn syrup, but there were no other hazardous materials and no injuries as a result of the incident. Local responders and BNSF personnel are still on-site and continue to work to mitigate the incident. There has been no impact to drinking water and air monitoring conducted over the past several hours indicates no detectable levels of concern. The evacuation order that had been in place was lifted as of 11:00 am local time and residents may safely return to their homes, although road detours will be established. Affected residents and businesses may contact 866-243-4784 for assistance. The main track is blocked and an estimated time for reopening the line is not yet available. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Initial Statement, March 30, 2023:

BNSF can confirm that on March 30th, at 1:02 am local time a train derailed near Raymond, MN. Approximately 22 cars carrying mixed freight including ethanol and corn syrup are reported to be derailed with four cars on fire. There are no other hazardous materials on the train and no injuries as a result of the incident. BNSF field personnel are onsite to assess the derailment site and are working closely with local first responders. Residents and businesses impacted by the incident can contact 866-243-4784 for assistance. The main track is blocked and an estimated time for reopening the line is not available. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
