BNSF Honored by Texas Native Americans

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 5, 2009:

BNSF Railway Company was recently honored as Corporation of the Year by both the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas (AICCT) and the Houston Native American Chamber of Commerce.

"BNSF is proud to support Native American communities all along our system," said Edward McFalls, assistant vice president, Human Resources and Diversity. "These acknowledgements by both Chambers characterize our ongoing commitment to make a difference in the communities where we live, serve and operate. We are honored to receive these awards."

The AICCT recognized BNSF at its annual awards banquet in Fort Worth in November. As a sponsor of the AICCT, BNSF supports Native American businesses in a number of ways. BNSF's largest minority-owned supplier, EMR Inc. is a Native American company that provides environmental and field support services to the railway. EMR was recently awarded BNSF's Distinguished Supplier of the year award for 2008.

The Houston Chamber recognized the BNSF Foundation's efforts in working with Native Americans in South Dakota in December. BNSF donated $100,000 to the Oglala Sioux and Cheyenne River Sioux to help members of these tribes search for jobs and update their skills through the establishment of two community achievement centers.
