How can I apply for a position with BNSF?
Click on Job Search/Apply and then External Candidate.
I'll be leaving the military or school soon and wish to work for BNSF Railway. How do I get started?
Go directly to the Careers page to submit an on-line application and apply.
I will be available for work in the future, but am not currently available. When should I apply?
Typically, jobs post 30 to 90 days in advance of the anticipated start date. If you are available for work when the posting is available on the careers website, apply online.
How long is the application process?
Typically, it takes 5-8 weeks after a job closes to complete the process.
How do I update my application?
Once an online application is submitted, the only information that can be changed or updated is your contact information (name, address, phone number). If you need to change your contact information, please log in and enter your user name and password. Click Communication Data, update your information and click save.
Can I use my G.I. Bill at BNSF?
G.I. Bill benefits may be used for approved degree / certificate programs, and apprenticeship / on-the-job training. To learn more visit your local veteran's administration office.

All applicants whether military or civilian are afforded the same equal opportunity for employment with the BNSF.
I'm a member of the National Guard or Reserves, what happens if I'm called to active service?
An employee may be granted: make whole pay while on military leave if he/she meets the criteria for "War on Terror" deployments, will be paid for a period up to fifteen (15) working days per year without the use of any vacation, benefits continuation. Read more about the BNSF Military Leave Policy 30.11 .
Does my military service count for railroad retirement?
Many railroad employees have at some time served in the Armed Forces of the United States. Under certain conditions, their military service may be credited as rail service under the Railroad Retirement Act.
What is the current status of my application?
Upon completion of the online application process, applicants receive a confirmation email. At this point, the application is submitted to the job (s) of your choice. Applications are screened for the most qualified candidates to proceed to the next step in the process. With regret, due to the large volume of applications, we are unable to personally respond to all applicants. All candidates will receive an email when their status changes.
How do I submit my resume?
Create or log on to your profile. Click the Candidate Profile link and then the Attachments tab. Click the Add Attachment button. Select Resume as the Attachment Type and then click the Browse button to navigate to the resume file on your computer. Click on the file name. Give the file a title like "My Resume" or optionally leave the title field blank. Click Save and you are done.
NOTE: You must submit your application to a specific job to be considered for that job.
I see more than one position that I am interested in, do I need to apply multiple times?
A separate application must be submitted for each job you wish to apply for.
